PATRICIA NAYLOR
Patricia was a painter who became interested in clay and primitive firing techniques. Coming to the Southwest introduced me to the cliff dwellings and people for whom everyday life required a spiritual context. In this country, one can’t help being touched by the timeless beauty, wisdom and power of the earth. To work with clay is to hold the earth and move with it—to use and honor it, responding to what it does to show its essence and beauty. To work with fire is to see earth transformed, The element of smoke gives age and mystery to my work. To surrender my work to fire creates risk that brings unexpected results I enjoy. Patricia's’ work incorporates landscape and imaginary cultural elements from different times and place that evoke feelings of temples, olivine's, tombs, and rituals.
