Don Stambler
DON STAMBLER
Don's personal romance with American neon as a subject for his artwork. He executed an oil painting that included an old motel, and noticed the sign on the roof of the motel appeared to vibrate…almost as if he were wearing 3-D glasses. It became apparent that during the day, a neon sign created a totally unique physical situation. The nature of the shadows depend on the time of day. The resulting combined image of the bulbs, the painted surface and the shadows create a 3-dimensials effect unique unto itself.
